Setup and Configuration

1. Netscape is availabe from the Netscape website.
2. Install the program into the default directories.
3. Start Netscape Mail & Newsgroups.
4. Configure your Newsgroup settings.
1. From the File menu, select New.
2. Select Account... from the drop-down menu.
3. Select the radio button for Newsgroup Account, then click Next.
4. Enter your Name and E-mail address (as you would like them displayed in your posts) in the appropriate fields.
5. Click Next.
6. In the Newsgroup Server field, enter news.supernews.com.
7. Click Next.
8. In the Account Name field, enter the name you would like the server listed as (i.e. SuperNews).
9. Click Next.
10. The next window will ask you to verify the account settings you have entered. If your settings are correct, click Finish.
5. Set up your login information and refresh the newsgroup list.
1. In the left column, select the news server (i.e. Supernews).
2. You will see several options in the right window - select Subscribe to Newsgroups.
3. In the Subscribe window, a pop-up dialog box will ask for your Username. Enter your SuperNews Username, and click OK.
4. The next dialog box will ask for your Password. Enter your SuperNews Password, and click OK.
5. Remember that your Supernews Username and Password are case-sensitive; be sure to enter them correctly.
6. If you would like Netscape's Password Manager to remember your login information each time you use Netscape, click on the checkbox next to Use Password Manager to remember this value for both your Username and Password.)
7. This will log you into the servers and start downloading the newsgroup list. This may take some time, depending on the speed of your connection.
6. Subscribe to desired newsgroups.
1. After the newsgroup list has been downloaded, you can select the groups you wish to subscribe to by clicking on the hierarchy name (i.e. supernews) you want and then select the desired group from within that hierarchy (i.e. supernews.general).
2. You can also search for the newsgroup by name (i.e. alt.binaries.*).
3. Select Subscribe.
4. Repeat this process for all desired groups.
5. Click OK when finished.
7. Read news.
1. In the left column, select the newsgroup you wish to read.
2. On the right side, you will see the newsgroup headers at the top and the messages themselves (when selected) at the bottom.
